EARLY PHARMACEUTICAL MEDICAL HISTORY

Samuel Thomson - early American herbalist and botanist who developed the Thomsonian System of Alternative Medicine.

He was famously sued for wrongful death in 1809 but acquitted.

Doctor Samuel Robinson - rare early original handwritten antique lecture notes on Thomasonian Medical Botany defending and promoting Thomsonian Medicine which was being derided as Quack Medicine at the time:

“We have not now time to enter minutely into the merits of the whole Thomasonian system… Were I to recount the invaluable advantages of this new practice it might astonish the ignorant and admonish the wise while both would be drawn into an extensive field of remark and meditation.”

“Medical knowledge is so simplified by the great founder of this institution that we know not which most to admire, the originality and simplicity of the fundamental principles of his system or the astonish and unparalleled success which has attended the practice.”

“They endure the pelting storm of persecution and stood fast against the maddening rage of innovation, reformation, speculation…”

“…the justness of the cause requires that every Thomsonian do his duty in relieving suffering humanity.”

He also mentions Doctors Waterhouse, Hersey, Powell, Holmes, & Robinson as Thomsonian practitioners.

A book based on his lectures was published soon after this original manuscript. The notebook serves as a rare view into the early interest in American herbalist and holistic medicines circa 1828-29.
