resultant from the evacuation during the Mexican-American War,

noting some confusion about whether the Navy Dept or US Treasury

should be meeting the request concerning 5 destitute seamen from the

USS Erie after participating in the occupation of Mazatlán.

Letter is addressed to Secretary of Treasury - Robert J. Walker
